BNP demands withdrawal of Mamata’s remarks on Bangladesh

The BNP has strongly protested and demanded the withdrawal of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s recent remarks, in which she suggested the deployment of a UN peacekeeping force in Bangladesh.
“The statement made by Mamata Banerjee about sending peacekeeping forces to Bangladesh is entirely a threat to the country’s independence and sovereignty. Through this remark, we think that the perspective of certain leaders has been somewhat exposed,” BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said in an audio statement from London.
Mamata today called for the deployment of a UN peacekeeping force in Bangladesh and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene personally to ensure the safety of religious minorities in the violence-hit country, reports NDTV.
Fakhrul called for an immediate withdrawal of the statement, adding, “I believe Mamata Banerjee should immediately withdraw her statement. Such thoughts should not even exist.”
“The people of Bangladesh fought for independence through the Liberation War and have recently reclaimed democracy through a revolution. The people of this country will stand against any such conspiracy at any cost,” he added.
In another statement, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi also criticised the West Bengal CM’s remarks, saying she insults the country’s sovereignty and independence.
“It is a direct threat of interference in an independent nation. The people of Bangladesh are shocked and astonished by the statement made by the West Bengal Chief Minister,” Rizvi said.
He questioned Mamata Banerjee’s intentions, saying, “What is her motive in proposing to send UN peacekeepers to Bangladesh? This should be clarified to the international community.”
In a strong condemnation of Mamata’s remarks, Rizvi urged all communities in Bangladesh — Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist, and Christian — to remain vigilant against what he described as conspiracies from neighboring countries.
